Box Score WATERVILLE, ME – University of Maine at Farmington was able to outrebound Thomas College, 50-27 in route to an 82-67 victory in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) men's basketball showdown on Tuesday night.
The Beavers saw their three game skid come to an end, improving to 5-5, 3-1 NAC on the season. Thomas now has lost their last three contests, falling to 2-7, 2-2 NAC.
Thomas held the lead in the early going of the contest, jumping out to their biggest advantage at the 12:03 mark with an Adam Carlsen three-pointer. The downtown shot gave the hosts a 19-9 point lead, but was soon relinquished when the Beavers responded with a 15-0 run to take the lead for good in the opening stanza.
The Terriers were able chip away at the UMF lead as sophomore guard Levi Barnes went 3-3 from beyond the arc in the closing minutes. At the break however, Farmington led 41-35.
Thomas shot a remarkable 53.8% (7-13) from the three-point line to help keep them in contention in the opening period.
The second half saw the Beavers extend their lead to double digits, going up by as many as 21 at 11:57 on a Sam Leal free-throw. Thomas cooled down from the field, shooting a mere 32.15 (9-28) in the closing half, while their counterpart went 13-28 (46.4%).
UMF's Ben Johnson led the game with 25 points, while contributing 14 rebounds. His teammate Andrew Dickey chipped in with 21 points and a game-high 15 caroms.
Thomas was led by junior guard Eric Westbrooks with 18 points. Levi Barnes and Garen Manzo were the only other two Terriers in double-digits for scoring with 15 points apiece.
Overall, Thomas shot 37.9% (22-58) from the floor, while Maine-Farmington went 28-66 (42.4%).
With the win, University of Maine at Farmington improves to 13-7 against Thomas College, dating back to the 2003-04 season when both teams joined the NAC.
Thomas will make their New Hampshire swing over the weekend as the Terriers take on conference foes New England College (Friday at 5:30pm) and Colby-Sawyer (Saturday at 1:00pm).
