Thomas Held Off by Beavers, 6-5

WATERVILLE, ME- The Thomas men's lacrosse team was unable to pick up a victory as they fell to conference rival University of Maine-Farmington 6-5 in a North Atlantic Conference men's lacrosse contest Wednesday evening. The Terriers now fall to 3-8, 2-4 NAC on the season while the Beavers improve to 4-5, 4-3 NAC.

The first three quarters of the game saw a combined four goals scored and the game entered the final quarter tied at two. The final quarter provided some intense action and a combined seven goals that went in runs of two, until the very end when UMF was able to hold off Thomas to secure the one goal victory.

Freshman Parket Chute (Exeter, N.H.) scored the only goal in the first quarter at the 11-minute mark on a pass from junior Gunnar Shelton (Eugene, Ore.) that put Thomas up early. UMF scored the only two goals in the second on shots from junior Jake Linkletter (Athens, Maine) and junior TC Peters (Scarborough, Maine) to put the Beavers up 2-1 at halftime.

Senior Sean Machin (Brunswick, Maine) notched the tying goal and only goal in the third quarter off another feed from Shelton.

The fourth started with a pair of quick goals coming within the first minute by Linkletter and junior Sean Berce (Auburn, Maine). Thomas would respond with two consecutive goals by junior Jordan Marino (Londonderry, N.H.) to tie the score back up at four.

Farmington would come back at Thomas with two unanswered man-up goals by Peters and senior Brandon Melville (Farmington, Maine) to back ahead by two with 5:46 remaining. Chute would net his second goal on the evening at 3:40 to pull the Terriers to within one, but the Terriers were unable get on the board again.

Senior goalkeeper Jesse Morkeski (Damariscotta, Maine) recorded 20 saves in the losing effort for Thomas while Beaver goalkeeper Ben Altmaier (Wilton, Maine) had 18 for UMF.

The Terriers held advantages in groundballs 55-43, in face-offs 11-4, and was 28 for 34 on clear attempts.

Thomas will look to rebound this Saturday when they host conference opponent Lyndon State on the Black Field at 3pm.
