Men's Lacrosse Bested by Mariners in NAC Semifinal Match-Up

Castine, ME – Men's Lacrosse traveled to take on #1 seed Maine Maritime Academy in the North Atlantic Conference Semifinals on Saturday, May 2, but were unable to overcome the Mariners by a final score of 7-20.

How it Happened:
  • The Terriers jumped out to an early lead in the opening minutes of the 1st quarter, as Jack Morrill and Owen Lyons scored back-to-back goals to give the Terriers a two goal advantage
  • The Terriers looked to build off their momentum midway through the 1st, with 5 shots on goal, but strong saves from the Mariners keeper kept the Terriers lead to two goals.
  • However, three unanswered goals from the Mariners to close out the 1st quarter sent the Terriers into the 2nd down 2-3.
  • The Mariners extended their lead to two goals in the opening minute of the second quarter, but a quick response from Morrill less than a minute later kept it a one-goal game.
  • MMA flipped the momentum of the game midway through the 2nd quarter, scoring four straight goals to put the Terriers down 3-8.
  • Wyatt Lyons and O.Lyons closed out the 2nd for the Terriers with two late goals, but a late strike from the Mariners sent Thomas into the half trailing 5-9.
  • The Mariners continued to push the pace in the opening minutes of the 3rd, scoring a flurry of goals to push the Terriers deficit to 8.
  • O. Lyons and Nicholas Pike (assists from Hunter Simpson) looked to generate momentum in the following minutes, completing back-to-back strikes to cut the deficit to six goals.
  • But three unanswered goals from MMA in the final minutes of the 3rd quarter sent the Terriers into the final fifteen minutes of play down 7-16.
  • The Terriers continued to battle in the fourth, but four additional goals from the Mariners throughout the quarter ultimately proved too much to overcome, as the Terriers fell by a final score of 7-20.
