Terriers Slug Past GMC in Twinbill

WATERVILLE, ME- Thomas (6-21, 5-9 NAC) came through with two North Atlantic Conference (NAC) softball victories over Green Mountain College (0-22, 0-12 NAC) Sunday afternoon. The Terriers shutout GMC 23-0 in the first game, then defeated the Eagles 10-2 in the finale.

GAME ONE

Thomas came out strong from the get go, scoring four runs in the first inning, two runs scoring off of a single to center field by Samantha Moore (Etna, Maine). The Terriers again would strike for four runs in the second, with McKayla Gastia (Milfdord, Maine) scoring Janelle Ciomei (Stonington, Maine) and Lauren Hachey (Oakland, Maine) with a two bagger to center.

The Terriers were able to pull away in the third, scoring a season-high 14 runs. Alyssa Eugley (Sidney, Maine) picked up four of her five hits on the day in the inning, doubling twice and recording two RBI. Thomas' 13 hits in the third was the most they have picked up in a single inning thus far in the 2013 campaign.

Another run in the fourth inning as Kristi Hilton (Monmouth, Maine) scored on a passed ball would give the victors the 23-0 final, as Faith Robinson (Auburn, N.H.) finished up her complete game one-hitter with a perfect fifth inning.

Moore finished the contest 2-3 with a team-leading three RBI, while Eugley went 4-5, including a triple, with two RBI.

GAME TWO

In the second inning Thomas would get on the board, plating home three runs, two of them off of a single to left field by Kate Thibodeau (Woolwich, Maine). The Terriers would strike for seven runs in the third, as Gastia had an inside the park homerun, driving in Moore. Eugley then doubled to left, driving in three.

Green Mountain would score two runs in the fifth however, as a single by Haley Provost (Holland, Ct.) to center drove in two.

Robinson got the win in game two, pitching three inning, yielding two hits, with one strikeout. Gastia pitched two innings of relief, striking out two, giving up two earned runs.

Thomas will return to action on Tuesday, traveling to Lyndon State for a doubleheader. First pitch scheduled for 3pm.
