Barnes Leads Thomas Past Pilrgrims

HENNIKER, N.H.- Thomas College guard Levi Barnes (Skowhegan, Maine) finished with a game-high 25 points leading the Terriers past the New England College Pilgrims 98-77 Friday evening.

With the win the Terriers improve to 9-9 overall and 6-7 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC)play. The loss drops the Pilgrims to 1-18 on the season and 1-11 in NAC play.

The Terriers would open the game with a seven point lead up 11-4 three minutes into the opening half. The Pilgrims would battle back grabbing their first lead of the half at the 15 minute mark up 16-15. Thomas would regain the lead using an 8-0 run to go up six midway through the half and extend their lead to as many as 11 with three minutes remaining on the clock. NEC would respond closing out the half outscoring Thomas 11-2 heading into the intermission trailing just 45-43.

The Terriers would come out of halftime and build a quick 13 point lead and never look back, taking advantage of Pilgrim turnovers finishing the half with 17 points off turnovers and controlling the points in the paint. Thomas would shoot an impressive 64% from the field for the evening en route to the 98-77 victory.

In addition to Barnes the Terriers were led by Jarrad DeVaughn (Brockton, Mass.) who finished with 22 points on 10-of-13 from the floor and grabbed a team-high five rebounds to go along with five assists. Thomas' Marquis Pollard (Philadelphia, Pa.) chipped in 16 points, while Stanley Greene Jr. (Dorchester, Mass.) and Eric Westbrooks (Dublin, Ireland) each finished with 10 points.

Leading the way for NEC was Abdirahman Mohamed (Biddeford, Maine) who finished with 12 points, seven assists and six steals. NEC's Jonathan Byrnes (Bethel, Conn.) finished with 15 points and a team-high six rebounds, while Ryan Schmitz (Redding, Calif.) chipped in 15 points for the Pilgrims.

Thomas will hit the court on Saturday, Feb. 2 when they travel to take on NAC foe Colby-Sawyer College.
