NCAA TOURNAMENT PREVIEW: Thomas at #16 St. Lawrence

CANTON, NY - Thomas College (12-7-1, 6-3 NAC) will be playing #16 St. Lawrence University (15-2-2, 7-1 LL) in the first round of NCAA Division III Championship on Saturday at Sandy MacAllaster Field on the campus of St. Lawrence.  

How they got here:

On the season, per game, the Terriers had 17.4 shots on goal and a shot percentage of .146. In total, Thomas scored 43 goals in the regular season. Thomas goalkeepers have recorded a save percentage of .818 this season. They have allowed 18 goals against opponents on the season, averaging 1.03 per game.

The Terriers defeated Colby-sawyer 4-1 to be crowned NAC champions for the second consecutive year, earning themselves a spot in the first round of NCAA championship tournament.

On the season, per game, St. Lawrence had 16.5 shots on goal and a shot percentage of .102. In total, St. Lawrence scored 32 goals in the season. They have allowed seven goals against opponents on the season, averaging 0.37 per game. The Saints goalkeepers have recorded a save percentage of .923 this season.

St. Lawrence earned an Automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament by defeating Skidmore College 3-1 in the 2013 Liberty League tournament.

What have they done lately?

The Terriers are coming into the weekend winning seven of their last eight games against conference opponents, including a victory against Castleton in the semifinals and a victory against Colby-sawyer 4-1 in the NAC Championship Final. Their lone conference loss came against Castleton in regular season play.

St. Lawrence is coming off of a four game win streak with two of those wins coming from a Liberty League semifinal game against Vassar College 1-0 and a 3-1 victory against Skidmore College in the championship. Skidmore College gave St Lawrence one of their only two losses for the season in the regular season.

Coaches Corner:

Head Coach Christopher Parsons, now in his third season at Thomas, has guided the Terriers to the postseason every year since being at the helm. Parsons led the squad to their third NAC Championship this season, winning two NAC Championships in a row, and a trip to the NCAA Tournament.

Durocher takes a career record of 304-98-43 into the Tournament, his 24th season at St. Lawrence. His team has made it to the NCAA Tournament 14 of the last 16 seasons. His 1999 team became the first team in NCAA Division III history to go undefeated and untied en route to a national championship and Durocher was named NSCAA Division III Coach of the Year for his efforts.
