Thomas Runs Past UNE 99-76, in Charlie Ryan Classic

FARMINGTON, ME– An up-tempo Thomas College offense took plenty of shots from all over the court and controlled the glass at both ends on its way to a 99-76 win over the University of New England, in Friday's opening game of the Charlie Ryan Classic men's basketball tournament at Dearborn Gym.

Thomas (1-0) led by as many as 13 points in the first half, only to see the margin get whittled down to two before taking a 42-35 lead into the locker room at the break. 
That Terrier lead was extended to 12 points by the 18-minute mark of the second half following a Marquis Pollard (Philadelphia, Pa./Robeson) layup. A 9-0 run later in the half left Thomas with a 65-47 lead with 13:40 remaining, and the Terriers' lead maxed out at 27 points, 87-60, with 7:08 to play following  a Garen Manzo (Millinocket, Maine/Stearns) three-pointer. 

Thomas shot took 90 shots and connected on 40 of those for a .444 field goal shooting percentage, while New England was held to 24-of-62 (.387) shooting from the floor. The Terriers also jacked up 41 three-pointers, hitting 13 of those to shoot .317 from beyond the arc.

Thomas outrebounded New England 53-44, with a 26-15 advantage on the offensive glass. 
Thomas had five players crack double-figures, led by Adam Carlsen (Rockport, Maine/Camden Hills) with 14 points. Stanley Greene, Jr., (Dorchester, Mass./East Boston) and Ray Bernier, Jr., (Oakland, Maine/Messalonskee) each had 13.

New England (0-1) was paced by Charles Fenner III (Bronx, N.Y./Rice) with a game-high 24 points, on his 8-of-18 effort from the floor and 5-of-9 mark from three-point range. Devin Thompson (Winthrop, Mass./St. Mary's) and Connor Michalak (Los Angeles, Calif./Temecula Prep) each chipped in with 10 points.

The Charlie Ryan Classic continues on Saturday afternoon at Thomas College's Mahaney Gym, with the Beavers playing the University of New England at 1:00 p.m., while Thomas will host UMaine-Machias at 3:00 p.m.
