Box Score POULTNEY, VT. - Joshua Phelps (Maroochydor, Australia) scored two goals to help Thomas College to a 2-0 North Atlantic Conference win against Green Mountain College on Saturday, October 6th. The loss drops GMC to 2-7-0 on the season and a North Atlantic Conference record of 1-3-0. With the win Thomas moves to 7-2-2 and are 4-0-1 in conference play.
The game witnessed a scoreless first half as both teams spent the majority of their possessions in the midfield. The Terriers outshot the Eagles eleven to two in the opening frame and had a couple of near misses in close but both times shot the ball high.
Phelps opened the scoring in the 51st minute when he converted a through ball from Dakota Duplisse (Hampden, Maine) past a diving Nate Kishbaugh. The Terriers threatened to extend the lead when Jacob Sirois (Waterville, Maine) was awarded a penalty kick when he was taken down in the box. The attacker picked the lower left corner, but a diving Kishbaugh turned aside the shot with an excellent sprawling save.
Thomas continued to pressure the ball and received numerous quality chances, but was unable to add to their lead until Phelps put a head on a corner kick by Kenny Cano and put it over a leaping Eagle keeper in the 78th minute.
Mikkail Crockwell (St. David's, Bermuda) picked up the win and shutout for the Terriers by making three saves.
Kishbaugh (2-5-0) gets saddled with the loss despite turning away nine shots in all.
The Terriers will head down the road to face Castleton at noon for the second half of their Vermont tour tomorrow.
