Saratoga Springs, NY - The Thomas College Field Hockey team traveled to face Skidmore College on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Thoroughbreds, 6-2, at Wagner Park. The Terriers battled throughout the contest, scoring twice in the second and third quarters.
How It Happened:
- Skidmore opened the scoring just over five minutes into the first quarter, taking a 1-0 lead on a breakaway.
- Just two minutes later, the Thoroughbreds added another goal to extend their lead to 2-0.
- Eliya Drummond was called into action throughout the opening quarter, making several saves to keep the Terriers within reach.
- Skidmore added a penalty stroke goal with just over 30 seconds remaining in the first quarter, taking a 3-0 lead into the second.
- The Thoroughbreds extended their lead early in the second quarter, scoring off a penalty corner to make it 4-0.
- Thomas responded with just over four minutes remaining in the half when Celia Stinson scored on a breakaway move around the Skidmore goalkeeper, cutting the deficit to 4-1.
- The Terriers entered halftime trailing 4-1.
- Mackenzie Toner took over in goal to begin the second half and made several saves early in the third quarter to keep Skidmore from extending its lead.
- Thomas continued to battle and earned a penalty corner with just over seven minutes remaining in the third quarter.
- Samantha Thebarge converted the opportunity, scoring off a penalty corner assisted by Maci Freeman to make the score 4-2.
- Toner continued to make key saves throughout the remainder of the third quarter, keeping the Terriers within two goals heading into the final period.
- Skidmore added two goals in the fourth quarter, including a goal off a penalty corner, to extend its lead to 6-2.
