Field Hockey Falls to #20 Ranked Shenandoah University to Open Virginia Trip

Winchester, VA - Field Hockey opened up their regular season with a trip to Virginia, taking on #20 nationally ranked Shenandoah University on Tuesday, September 1st, 2026. The final score was 1-7 in the team's first of two games in the state.

How it Happened:
  • Terrier goalkeeper Mackenzie Toner was called into action early, making two good saves in the first two minutes to keep the game tied.
  • The Terriers defended well for the next few minutes, not allowing any clear-cut chances.
  • With four minutes to go in the first quarter the Hornets finally found the breakthrough, taking a 1-0 lead into the second quarter from a penalty corner.
  • Three minutes into the second quarter the Hornets struck again, this time from another penalty corner to double their lead.
  • Despite some positive moments, the Terriers went into the halftime break down 0-3 against the nationally ranked squad.
  • After another Hornet goal five minutes into the second half, a yellow card awarded the Terriers a penalty stroke.
  • Samantha Thebarge stepped up and found the back of the goal, making the score 1-4.
  • Toner was called into action again soon after, making several saves to prevent some key chances.
  • The Hornets took a 5-1 lead into the fourth quarter, where they added on two more goals to make the final 7-1.
