Baseball Splits Day One of NAC Playoffs, Earns Thrilling 16-14 Win Against VTSU Lyndon to Keep Season Alive

Bangor, ME – Baseball split day one of games in the 2026 North Atlantic Conference Tournament, falling in game one to #2 SUNY Cobleskill by a score of 11-16, then bouncing back to defeat #4 VTSU Lyndon 16-14 in a thrilling win to keep the season alive. With the second game of the day for the Terriers ending at approximately 10:40 PM, the team will be back in action tomorrow, Friday May 8th, to take on the loser of #1 Husson University and #2 SUNY Cobleskill at 2:00 PM in Bangor, Maine.
 
 
How it Happened:
 
Game One: 11-16 Loss VS SUNY Cobleskill
  • The Fighting Tigers started off the game well, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning.
  • The Terriers responded with a two RBI single from Evan Nadeau to bring things back to 2-3 in the bottom half of the frame.
  • Soon after in the top of the third inning the Terriers were able to respond again after two more runs from the Fighting Tigers.
  • A long triple from Gavin Clark scored both Ajay Rychcik and DJ Cagnina to make it 4-5.
  • With the score 4-6 heading into the fourth, the Terriers utilized a huge inning to take the lead.
  • Cagnina, Gus Hollen, and Grady Hotham all brought in RBI, while Jeremy Spencer scored from a walk to make it 8-7.
  • The Fighting Tigers once again battled back, scoring five runs thanks to a double and a grand slam to make it a four-run game.
  • In the sixth inning doubles from Rychcik and Spencer made things manageable, scoring three total runs to make it 11-12.
  • Later in the sixth and seventh innings the Fighting Tigers added four more runs, and they were able to shut out the Terriers in the final three to hand them a 11-16 loss.

Inside the Stats:  
Game Two: 16-14 Win VS VTSU Lyndon
  • Facing elimination from the playoffs with a loss in this matchup, the Terriers started off hot in game two.
  • Cagnina started off doubling to right enter that brought home Nick Griffel, making it 1-0 in the first.
  • Good baserunning saw Cagnina advance home from a fielder's choice, thanks to an RBI from Hollen, to double the Terrier lead.
  • However, the Hornets responded in the bottom of the inning with three runs of their own, to make it 2-3.
  • The second inning opened with an RBI fielder's choice from Hayden Dippner, scoring Hotham to tie things at 3-3.
  • Good baserunning from Spencer after a ground out saw the Terriers take a 4-3 lead, then Cagnina followed up with another RBI from a single to add another run.
  • With the Hornets scoring one in the bottom of the inning, Cagnina continued his hot streak with a deep home run to right center, scoring two runs to make it 6-4.
  • Soon after Clark scored another run, but the Hornets battled back to regain the lead at 7-8, taking their lead into the fifth inning.
  • In the fifth the Hornets scored four runs, with the Terriers falling behind 7-12.
  • Neither team would score again until the seventh inning, when an error from the Hornets saw Dippner and Nadeau score, cutting the Hornet lead to just four runs.
  • In the eighth Clark took advantage of a wild pitch, scoring to make it 10-12.
  • Soon after Nadeau was able to utilize his speed to earn an inside-the-park home run, scoring two more runs to tie things up at 12 apiece.
  • The Terriers continued their form at the plate in the ninth, with Pedro Hernandez earning a walk with bases loaded to finally take back the lead, 13-12.
  • A bawk, a wild pitch, and a single from Dippner saw the Terriers score three more runs, setting up Brody Walsh to close out the game for the Terriers on the mound.
  • Walsh was able to deliver, securing the Terriers a 16-14 win, keeping their season alive for at least another day.
