Cagnina Sets All-Time Doubles Record as Baseball Trounces UMFK on Senior Day

Waterville, ME - DJ Cagnina set the all-time program record in career doubles (41) in the team's doubleheader sweep against the University of Maine Fort Kent Bengals at home on Saturday, May 2nd, 2026. The Terriers also honored seven seniors on the team's annual Senior Day. This included DJ Cagnina, Tyler Cantey, Patrick Temby, Javier Diaz, Roy Clayton, Ankit Shah, and Stephen Coffey.

How it Happened:

Game One: 15-7 Win (7 Innings)
  • Thomas wasted no time setting the tone, erupting for four runs in the first inning.
  • DJ Cagnina got things started with an RBI single to bring in Dippner.
  • This was followed by another RBI knock from Ajay Rychcik to score Gus Hollen.
  • The Terriers capitalized on aggressive baserunning and a wild pitch to quickly build a 4–0 lead.
  • UMaine-Fort Kent responded in the second with a three-run frame to cut the deficit to one.
  • Thomas answered immediately and emphatically in the third.
  • Evan Nadeau delivered a big two-RBI single, later scoring on the play, while Rychcik added a two-run double to cap a five-run inning and extend the lead to 9–3.
  • The Terriers continued to apply pressure in the fourth, with Nadeau adding another RBI and Hollen driving in a run on a fielder's choice.
  • Despite UMFK putting together a three-run fifth inning to make it 11–7, Thomas never let the momentum slip.
  • Thomas tacked on insurance runs late, taking advantage of wild pitches and defensive miscues in the sixth inning to plate three more runs.
  • Rychcik and Nadeau led the offensive surge, combining for multiple RBIs as Thomas piled up 15 runs in a complete team effort.
  • The Terriers' ability to respond to every UMaine-Fort Kent rally ultimately secured a convincing 15–7 victory in game one.
