Baseball Earns Doubleheader Conference Sweep Against UMF

Waterville, ME - Baseball earned their third and fourth conference wins of the season against the University of Maine Farmington Beavers in a home doubleheader on Wednesday, April 22nd, 2026. The final scores were 6-3 and 8-3.

How it Happened:

Game One - 6-3 Win (7 Innings)
  • The Beavers struck first in the top of the second, capitalizing on timely hitting and a Thomas error to jump out to a 3–0 lead.
  • The Terriers responded immediately in the bottom half of the same inning with a massive offensive surge.
  • Sacrifice flies from Hayden Dippner and Nick Griffel got Thomas on the board, scoring Jeremy Spencer and Nathan Paes.
  • DJ Cagnina tied the game with an RBI double down the right field line scoring Grady Hotham.
  • Ajay Rychcik followed with a go-ahead single, scoring Cagnina helped by a Beaver error to cap a four-run inning and give Thomas a 4–3 advantage.
  • After both teams settled in defensively over the next few innings, Thomas delivered the knockout blow in the fifth.
  • Gus Hollen launched a two-run home run, bringing in Gavin Clark and extending the Terriers' lead to 6–3.
  • Thomas' pitching staff held firm the rest of the way, including a win from Ian Libby and a save from Andrew Rapoza to secure the win.

  • The Beavers came out swinging early, plating two runs in the first inning behind RBI singles, then added another in the third to take a 3–1 lead.
  • Terriers chipped away in the second when Adam Lafond drove in Hollen, but the real turning point came in a dominant fourth inning.
  • In the fourth the Terriers exploded for seven runs, capitalizing on patience at the plate and clutch hitting.
  • RBI walks from Patrick Temby and Dippner with the bases loaded tied the game, then Spencer gave the Terriers the lead on a fielder's choice.
  • The inning only gained momentum from there, with Cagnina delivering a two-run double to extend the lead, scoring Spencer and Temby.
  • Rychcik capped the rally with a two-run home run to put Thomas firmly in control, scoring Cagnina to make it an 8–3 game.
  • From there, the Terriers' pitching shut the door, including excellent pitching from Brody Walsh (8 strikeouts), Ankit Shah, and Kyle Delano to hold the Beavers scoreless over the final innings and secure the doubleheader sweep.
