Baseball Earns First Win of Season in WNE Doubleheader

Davenport, FL - Baseball earned their first win of the season in a doubleheader against the Western New England University Golden Bears in the team's final matchups on their annual spring trip to Florida. The final scores were 8-6 and 2-12 on Thursday, March 12th, 2026.

How it Happened:

Game One: 8-6 Win (8 Innings)
  • The Golden Bears opened the scoring in the second inning, scoring two runs to give them an early lead.
  • However, the Terriers were able to respond in a big way in the top of the third.
  • A two-run homerun to deep right field from Grady Hotham scored himself and Jeremy Spencer to tie things up.
  • Soon after DJ Cagnina sent a single to right center that scored Nick Griffel, after he earned a hit to make it 3-2.
  • Ian Libby, who started on the mound for the Terriers, had been pitching well in the first few innings, finishing with six strikeouts and just four earned runs.
  • The Terriers tacked on two more runs in the top of the fifth inning thanks to good base running from Griffel and another single from Cagnina that brought home Gus Hollen to make it 5-2.
  • Despite the lead the Golden Bears were able to battle back, scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to make it five a piece.
  • In the top of the seventh a single from Hollen scored Hotham, giving the Terriers a 6-5 lead.
  • However, the Golden Bears were able to match the Terrier's offense, scoring a run of their own despite leaving three on base.
  • In the top of the eighth inning a clutch single to right field from Gavin Clark scored Ajay Rychcik and Zeke Rand, giving the Terriers a two run lead with just three outs to go.
  • In the bottom of the inning Brody Walsh got the nod to pitch, only allowing two hits and striking out two batters while earning a save to confirm the 8-6 win.

  • The Golden Bears struck first in game two, hitting a double that gave them a 1-0 lead.
  • Soon after a double from Cagnina scored Zeke Rand, tying things at 1-1.
  • The Golden Bears remained consistent on offense, scoring at least one run in every inning.
  • The Terriers earned their second run of the game in the fourth inning after Bryce Bardwell scored from a passed ball to make it 2-5.
  • Despite the best efforts of the Terriers, the Golden Bear's consistency went through all seven innings, with the game ending in a 2-12 loss.
