Terriers End Day Four of Spring Games with Another Split

Winter Haven, FL – Thomas softball closed out day four of the Spring Games with another split. In game one, a hard-fought pitching battle ultimately ended in an 8–5 loss to Carroll University. The Terriers then bounced back with a strong performance, defeating Washington College (MD) 10–3 in game two.
 
Game 1: 5-8 Thomas vs. Carroll (Wis.)
  • Carroll wasted no time getting on the board. After retiring three Thomas batters in the top of the first inning, the Pioneers scored three runs on one hit as multiple walked batters reached base.
  • In the second inning the Terriers were able to put two runners on base but ultimately could not bring them home.
  • Carroll added their fourth run in the bottom of the second inning.
  • The game remained at a standstill until the top of the fifth inning, when the Terriers tied the game.
  • Corinne Vasvary walk during her at bat, eventually reaching third. Maddy Morris then reached on an error, advancing Vasvary. The pair moved into scoring position before a passed ball and ball four to Abby Farone allowed Vasvary to score. Lillian Noyes reached first on a fielder's choice while Morris crossed the plate. Finally, Maeve Hickok singled to right field, bringing Farone home bringing the score to 4-4.
  • Carroll responded immediately, scoring three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning on two hits.
  • Thomas continued to apply pressure in the sixth inning. Morgan Duhaime, who had reached base earlier in the inning on a walk, scored on a single to right field by Morris.
  • Carroll sealed the win in the bottom of the sixth inning, scoring their eighth and final run on a double. Ending with a score of 8-5 in Carroll's favor.
  • Difficult conditions led to three Terriers pitchers appearing in the game. Brooke Smith started before being relieved by Megan Oberholzer. Oberholzer pitched until Lillian Noyes replaced her in the bottom of the fourth inning.

  • Maeve Hickok finished the game with two RBIs and reached base twice.
 
 
Game 2: 10-3 Thomas vs Washington College (MD)
 
  • Washington College struck first, scoring three runs on four hits in the top of the first inning to put early pressure on the Terriers.
  • Thomas responded in the bottom of the second inning, rallying to tie the game at three.
  • Emily Rock opened the inning with an infield single, followed by a walk to Carlie Jarvais. Leah Knight laid down a sacrifice bunt to move both runners into scoring position. Morgan Duhaime then delivered a single up the middle, scoring both runners and cutting the deficit to 3–2.
  • Later in the inning, the Terriers loaded the bases and Megan Oberholzer singled up the middle to score Duhaime and tie the game at 3–3.
  • Thomas took its first lead in the third inning when Rock scored on a double to left-center by Knight, making it 4–3.
  • Noyes continued to shut down the Washington offense in the circle, helping the Terriers maintain their momentum.
  • In the fifth inning, Thomas pulled away with six runs on two hits to secure the 10–3 victory.

What's Next:

Thomas softball continues its spring break trip on March 12 in Kissimmee, Florida, at the Fortune Road Athletic Complex. The Terriers will face Westminster College (PA) at 1:30 p.m. before taking on Carlow University at 4:00 p.m.
