Women's Basketball Drops Road Conference Match Up to UMF

Farmington, ME - Women's Basketball traveled to take on the University of Maine-Farmington in a North Atlantic Conference match-up on Saturday, January 31st, but ultimately fell to the Beavers by a final score of 62-74. Despite the loss, guard Elena Alderman led the Terriers in scoring, finishing the contest with 18 points.

How it Happened:
  • The Beavers would claim the early momentum off the opening tip with six quick points, but a strong finish in the paint from Kay McLellan got the Terriers offense rolling shortly afterward.
  • Alderman and Holly Loring cut the Terriers deficit to just two points midway through the 1st with six combined points.
  • But made baskets from UMF in the following minutes kept the momentum with the Beavers.
  • The Terriers closed out the 1st with key buckets from H. Loring,  Deja Hamilton, and Brooklyn Calder, but still trailed 19-20 after ten minutes of play.
  • An Alderman layup claimed the lead for the Terriers in the opening minutes of the 2nd quarter.
  • But a quick response from the Beavers midway through the 2nd put the Terriers down 21-24.
  • Seven combined points from Pryelle Kesse-Beda and Alderman closed out the 2nd quarter for the Terriers, but the Beavers maintained a narrow 29-30 lead heading into the half.
  • Six quick points from McLellan and Alderman knotted the game at 32-32 in the opening minutes of the 3rd quarter.
  • Both teams continued to trade points midway through the 3rd, but a three-pointer from Emily Hagerty and made jumper from Kesse-Beda kept the lead with the Terriers.
  • Alderman and Kesse-Beda continued to fuel the Terriers offense in the final minutes of the 3rd quarter, but a late scoring run from the Beavers put the Terriers down 46-53 with ten minutes remaining in regulation.
  • The Terriers continued to chip away at their deficit early in the 4th with a quick and one from Kesse-Beda to make it a 49-53 game.
  • But the Beavers continued to find responses, extending their lead back to seven points with just over five minutes left to play.
  • The Terriers continued to battle late in the 4th quarter with key buckets from Kesse-Beda, Alderman, and H. Loring.
  • But the Beavers ultimately controlled the final minutes of the game, holding on to hand the Terriers a 62-74 North Atlantic Conference road loss.

  • Women's Basketball will be back in action on Saturday, February 7th, hosting the Lesley University Lynx in a North Atlantic Conference match-up. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 PM at Larry Mahaney Gymnasium.
