Women's Basketball Falls to Maine Maritime in Road Conference Match-Up

Castine, ME - Women's Basketball traveled to take on Maine Maritime Academy in a North Atlantic Conference match-up on Friday, January 30th, but were unable to overcome the Mariners by a final score of 43-63.

How it Happened:
  • The Terriers got off to a slow start in the opening minutes of the 1st quarter, with the Mariners claiming an early 0-8 lead.
  • But a three pointer from Elena Alderman in the following minutes started the Terriers on a battle back.
  • Kay McLellan closed out the 1st quarter with a made free throw, but the Terriers trailed 4-11 after one quarter of play.
  • The Terriers found a response in the opening minutes of the second quarter, knocking down back-to-back baskets from Kay McLellan and Alderman to cut the deficit to just three points.
  • But the Mariners would answer right back, extending their lead back to double digits midway through the 2nd.
  • The Terriers closed the 2nd quarter with strong finishes in the paint from Holly Loring and Emily Hagerty, but would find themselves down 14-30 heading into halftime.
  • Quick buckets from Deja Hamilton and Pryelle Kesse-Beda got the Terriers offense going early in the 3rd quarter.
  • But the Mariners soon found pace in midway through the quarter, extending their lead to 16 points.
  • H. Loring looked to generate some momentum for the Terriers late in the 3rd quarter with a made three-pointer, but the Terriers still trailed 24-43 heading into the final 10 minutes of play.
  • H. Loring took over the Terriers' offense in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter, scoring nine consecutive points to trim the deficit to 13.
  • But another scoring run by the Mariners would give them the momentum back, extending their lead to 19 points with just 4 minutes to play.
  • The Terriers would continue to battle until the final buzzer, but the Mariners ultimately took control the remainder of the contest to hand the Terriers a 43-63 North Atlantic Conference loss on the road.
