Men’s Basketball Drops Tight Conference Contest to Maine Maritime

Castine, ME - Men's Basketball traveled to Maine Maritime Academy for a North Atlantic Conference match-up on Friday, January 30, but fell to the Mariners, 69-71, in a back-and-forth contest. Despite the setback, Terriers guard Isaiah Godley led the Terriers with 17 points, while fellow guard TJ Blackmon added a near triple-double in the effort.

How it Happened:
  • The Mariners claimed the early lead off the opening tip with a quick 6-0 run, but a strong finish in the paint from Blackmon shortly after got the Terriers offense on the board.

  • The Terriers flipped the momentum of the game midway through the 1st, completing a 9-0 run thanks to Mohamud, Blackmon, and Nate Hebert to knot the game up at 19-19.
  • A Hebert three-pointer gave the Terriers their first lead of the game in the with just over 7 minutes to play.
  • But a quick response from the Mariners late in the half put the Terriers down 27-30 with four minutes remaining in the half.
  • Despite a strong offensive showing from the Mairners late in the half, the Terriers closed out the first half with 11 combined points from Godley, Jayden DeSimone, and Spencer Minihan, carrying a narrow 36–35 lead into the half.
  • The Mariners opened the 2nd half with another small scoring run to put the Terriers down a possession.
  • But a made jumper from Minihan and layup from Godley got the Terriers back on track minutes later.
  • Minihan, Blackmon, and Mohamud continued to contribute offensively midway through the 2nd half, each knocking down shots to reclaim a 48-45 lead for the Terriers.
  • A made three-pointer from Brady Adams briefly kept the momentum in the Terriers' hands, but a short scoring run by the Mariners put the Terriers down five with just over seven minutes to play.
  • But the Terriers continued to battle late in the half, tying the game at 61–61 behind six unanswered points from Jayden DeSimone, TJ Blackmon, and Jayden Kim.
  • The Mariners reclaimed a 64-67 lead with just over one minute remaining in regulation.
  • Clutch baskets from Isaiah Godley and Jayden DeSimone gave the Terriers a 69–67 advantage with 30 seconds to play.
