Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Second Half Rally Not Enough as Women's Basketball Falls 53-60 to VTSU Lyndon

Waterville, ME - Women's Basketball hosted Vermont State University-Lyndon in a North Atlantic Conference match-up on Tuesday, January 27th, but ultimately fell short to the Hornets in a close battle by a final score of 53-60.

How it Happened:
  • The Hornets claimed the early lead to open the 1st quarter, but a three-pointer from Emily Hagerty and a mid range jumper from Kaya Loring got the Terriers back on track shortly afterward.
  • Buckets from K. Loring and Pryelle Kesse-Beda midway through the 1st quarter cut the Terriers deficit to just three points.
  • The Terriers closed the 1st quarter with points from Kesse-Beda and Holly Loring, but trailed 13-15 after one quarter of play.
  • Made free-throws from H. Loring in the opening minute of the 2nd quarter tied the game at 15-15.
  • But the Hornets reclaimed the momentum midway through the 2nd with a scoring run.
  • The Terriers chipped away at their deficit in the final minutes of the 2nd quarter with points from Hagerty and Deja Hamilton, but ultimately found themselves down 20-35 heading into halftime.
  • Points from Hagerty and Elena Alderman got the Terriers offense going in the opening minutes of the 3rd quarter, but the Hornets continued to keep pace.
  • A Kesse-Beda jumper and an Alderman three-pointer made it a 45-32 game midway through the 3rd.
  • Seven combined points from K. Loring and Kay McLellan closed the third quarter, but the Terriers remained behind 49–40 entering the final ten minutes of play.
  • The Terriers flipped the momentum in the opening minutes of the 4th quarter, completing a 6-0 run thanks to Alderman and Maria Tomova to make it 46-49 game.
  • However, the Hornets responded back midway through the 4th, extending their lead to nine points with just over 4 minutes to play.
  • The Hornets maintained a nine point lead with just under two minutes remaining, but a McLellan three-pointer and a H. Loring jumper made it a 53-57 game with less than 30 seconds remaining.
  • But despite the Terriers best efforts, the Hornets ultimately held on to hand the Terriers a 53-60 North Atlantic Conference loss.
