Men's Basketball Earns Hard Fought 78-72 Conference Win Over VTSU Lyndon

Waterville, ME - Despite trailing at half, Men's Basketball rallied for a hard fought 78-72 North Atlantic Conference win over Vermont State University-Lyndon on Tuesday, January 27th. A near quadruple-double from Terriers guard TJ Blackmon helped fuel the Terriers offense, with Isaiah Godley and Brady Adams also playing significant roles in the win over the Hornets.

How it Happened:
  • The Terriers jumped out to a hot start off the opening tip, completing a 9-0 run thanks to Isiah Corson, Adams, and Blackmon.
  • A made layup from Blackmon shortly afterward made it an 11-4 game.
  • But a small scoring run from the Hornets soon followed, knotting the game up at 11-11 with 13 minutes to play in the half.
  • The Hornets claimed the lead midway through the 1st half, but back-to-back buckets from Blackmon minutes later would get the Terriers back on track.
  • Both teams traded points late in the first half, but a three-pointer from Nate Hebert and a made jumper from Desimone would keep the lead with the Terriers.
  • Despite late buckets from Blackmon and Godley in the final minutes of the half, the Terriers ultimately found themselves down 33-36 heading into halftime.
  • The Hornets looked to extend their lead early in the 2nd half with quick points.
  • But the Terriers found a quick response, with Corson, Adams, and Payton Mitchell each contributing in a 7-0 scoring run to tie the game at 40-40 minutes later.
  • The Terriers and the Hornets continued to battle for the lead in the following minutes, but buckets from Adams and Blackmon helped swing momentum back in the Terriers' favor.
  • Crucial points from Hebert, Godley, and Yasmo Mohamud helped extend the Terriers lead to nine points with just over 7 minutes to play in regulation.
  • But the Hornets would answer back minutes later, completing a late scoring run to make it 72-68 game late in the 2nd half.
  • The Hornets cut the Terriers lead to just one point in the final minute of regulation, but clutch free-throws from Godley and Adams ultimately put the game out of reach, as the Terriers held on to claim a 78-72 NAC win over VTSU Lyndon.
