Women's Basketball Claims 75-34 Conference Win Over VTSU Johnson

Waterville, ME - Women's Basketball hosted Vermont State University–Johnson in a North Atlantic Conference match-up on Saturday, January 24, earning a statement 75–34 victory over the Badgers for its eighth conference win of the season. Elena Alderman and Pryelle Kesse-Beda led the Terriers offense with 14 points apiece, while Mykey Avni added a career-high 13 points.
How it Happened:
  • The Terriers would claim the early lead with quick buckets in the paint from Kesse-Beda, but the Badgers would find a response to put the Terriers down 4-5 minutes later.
  • Kesse-Beda and Alderman would generate momentum for the Terriers with made buckets midway through the 1st give the Terriers an 11-8 lead.
  • The Terriers would close out the 1st quarter with a 9-0 run thanks to Avni and Kay McLellan, putting the Terriers up 20-8 after one quarter of play.
  • Sister pair Holly Loring and Kaya Loring continued to build on the Terriers' lead in the 2nd with made baskets in the opening minutes of the quarter.
  • A small scoring run from the Badgers would cut the Terriers lead to just nine points midway through the 2nd quarter.
  • But the Terriers found a response late in the second quarter, closing the half on a 9–0 run sparked by Alderman, Kesse-Beda, and Maria Tomova to take a 33–15 lead into the half.
  • The Terriers opened the 3rd quarter with an 8-4 scoring run thanks to Kesse-Beda, Alderman, and Emily Hagerty.
  • Made baskets from Hagerty and Alderman would extend the Terriers lead to 28 points midway through the 3rd.
  • Eight combined points to close out the 3rd quarter from Avni, McLellan, and K. Loring would send the Terriers into the 4th quarter with a 59-27 lead.
