Women's Basketball Unable to Stop Huskies Offense in Non-Conference Match-Up

Waterville, ME - Women's Basketball hosted the University of Southern Maine in their final non-conference match-up of the season on Tuesday, January 20th, but ultimately fell to the talented Huskies squad by a final score of 52-81.

How it Happened:
  • Emily Hagerty got the Terriers on the board first with a made three-pointer in the opening seconds of the 1st quarter.
  • But a large scoring run from the Huskies midway through the quarter put the Terriers down double digits.
  • Holly Loring closed the 1st quarter with seven consecutive points in the final three minutes of the 1st, but another scoring run and strong defense from the Huskies put the Terriers down 10-30 after ten minutes of play.
  • The Huskies looked to extend their lead early in the 2nd quarter, but made buckets from Brooklyn Calder and Kay McLellan shortly after would get the Terriers back on track.
  • Made layups on back to back possessions from McLellan and Mykey Avni would make it a sixteen point game midway through the 2nd.
  • But another small scoring run from the Huskies to end the 2nd quarter would put the Terriers down 22-46 heading into the half.
  • The Huskies would open the 3rd quarter with a quick 6-0 scoring run, but the Terriers would find a response with a Kaya Loring jumper and Pryelle Kesse-Beda layup minutes later.
  • Points from K. Loring, H. Loring, and Deja Hamilton would make it a 29-60 game midway through the 3rd quarter.
  • The Terriers would close the 3rd quarter with a 7-0 scoring run thanks to H. Loring, K. Loring, and McLellan, but would still find themselves trailing 36-65 heading into the 4th quarter.
  • Maria Tomova, McLellan, and Kesse-Beda would open the 4th quarter with six quick points, but the Huskies would continue to keep pace in the following minutes.
  • The Terriers would continue to battle in the 4th quarter, but the Huskies would ultimately take control of the remainder of the game, and would hold on to hand the Terriers a 52-81 non-conference loss at home
