Cobleskill, NY - Women's Basketball earned its fourth straight win of the new year on Sunday, January 11th, defeating the SUNY Cobleskill Fighting Tigers in a hard-fought North Atlantic Conference battle by a final score of 62–58.
Elena Alderman and
Pryelle Kesse-Beda led the Terriers in scoring in the win over Cobleskill, finishing with 16 and 14 points, respectively.
How it Happened:
- A Kesse-Beda jumper and a Kay McLellan free throw gave the Terriers an early 3–0 lead in the opening minutes of the game.
- Cobleskill soon found its rhythm, using a five-point scoring run to take the lead midway through the first quarter.
- The Terriers closed the final minutes of the opening quarter with baskets from Kesse-Beda, Alderman, and Deja Hamilton, but still trailed 12–10 after one quarter of play.
- The Fighting Tigers would extend their lead to six points in the opening minutes of the 2nd quarter, but three quick points from Roxy Dagostino would make it a one possession game shortly after.
- Dagostino and Kesse-Beda would keep the offense rolling midway through the 2nd, but Cobleskill would continue to find responses on the offensive end.
- The Terriers would continue to battle for the lead late in the 2nd quarter with points from Alderman, Hamilton, and Kesse-Beda, but would ultimately find themselves down 26-32 at the half.
- The Terriers came out of the halftime break hot, opening the third quarter on a quick 9–0 run behind buckets from Kay McLellan, Emily Hagerty, and Holly Loring to reclaim a 35–32 lead.
- Cobleskill would look to flip the momentum of the game midway through the 3rd quarter, but points from McLellan shortly after would keep the lead in the hands of the Terriers.
- But the Fighting Tigers would eventually find a response, completing an 8-2 run in the final minutes of the 3rd to put the Terriers down 40-45 with 10 minutes remaining.
- The Terriers would reclaim the momentum in the opening minutes of the 4th quarter, completing a 6-0 run thanks to Dagostino and Alderman to give the Terriers a 46-45 lead.
- Cobleskill would reclaim a three point lead midway through the 4th, but made free throws from Alderman and Kesse-Beda would knot the game at 51-51 with five minutes remaining in regulation.
- Both teams would battle for lead the in the following minutes, but six combined points from Kesse-Beda and Alderman would put the Terriers up 57-55 with just over a minute to play.
- Despite a late comeback attempt from the Fighting Tigers, clutch free throws from Holly Loring, Elena Alderman, and Kay McLellan would ice the game in the closing seconds of the quarter, as the Terriers held on for a hard-fought 62–58 North Atlantic Conference win over SUNY Cobleskill.
