Lawrence, MA -Â NECBA Club Baseball traveled to face the Holy Cross and Tufts University club baseball teams in a 7-inning double header on Saturday, September 20th. The Terriers would take the win in both games by scores 6-0, and 7-4, extending the team's record to 4-1 in their inaugural season.
Game 1: Terriers NECBA Club 6 - Holy Cross Club Baseball 0
How it Happened:
- Andrew Pruell would get the start on the mound for the Terriers in game one and would pitch a near flawless game, allowing only one hit and earning 10 strikeouts through seven complete innings.
- The Terriers would get the bats going early in the contest, scoring one run in the top of the first, and two runs in the top of the second inning to give the Terriers and early 3-0 lead.
- The Terriers would continue to extend their lead in the top of the 4th and 5th inning, scoring back to back runs to make it a 5-0 game.
- The Terriers would score an insurance run in the top of the 7th inning, and would hold Holy Cross in the bottom of the 7th to secure a 6-0 victory in game one.
- Nick Griffel and Robby Neese would lead the Terriers on offense, going a combined 3-6, with 2 RBI's and 2 runs scored.
- Eight different Terriers would record at least one hit in the contest, with four players also recording an RBI in the win over Holy Cross.
- Pruell would earn the win for the Terriers with a dominant outing on the mound.
Game 2: Terriers NECBA Club 7 - Tufts University Club Baseball 4
How it Happened:
- Andrew Rapoza would get the start on the mound in game two against the Tufts University club team, throwing six strikeouts and allowing 4 earned runs off 5 hits through 5.2 innings.
- The Terriers would strike first in the top of the first inning, but the Jumbos claim the lead with three runs in the bottom of the first to put the Terriers down 1-3.
- The Terriers would find a response to the Jumbos offense shortly after, scoring three unanswered runs in the second inning to reclaim a one run lead.
- Bryce Dillon would come into the game for the Terriers to relieve Rapoza in the middle of the fifth inning.
- The Jumbos would try and generate some momentum with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game up at 4-4.
- But the Terrier bats would come alive once again in the top of the 7th inning, scoring 3 runs to reclaim a 7-4 lead.
- The Jumbos would have one final chance to respond in the bottom of the 7th inning, but Dillon would shut the Jumbos offense down to help lead the Terriers to a 7-4 win over the Tufts club baseball team. Dillon would earn the win in game two over the Jumbos.
- Griffel and Derek Martin would lead the Terriers offense with strong performances in game two, going a combined 5-8, with 5 RBI's and one run scored.
What's Next:
- The Terriers will return to action on Sunday, September 21st, hosting the University of Fort-Kent Bengals in a double header at H. Allen Ryan Field. Both games scheduled for seven innings, with game one starting at 2:00 PM, and game two following at 4:00 PM.Â
