Waterville, ME - The Thomas College NECBA Baseball team hosted Tufts University Club Baseball in the NECBA Playoffs on Saturday, October 25th, securing a thrilling 10–9 victory over the Jumbos in extra innings to advance.

How it Happened:
  • The Jumbos struck first early in the contest, plating runs in the top of the first and second innings to take a 3–0 lead over the Terriers.
  • The Terriers would get the bats going shortly after, responding with five combined runs in the bottom of the third and fourth innings to claim a 5–3 lead over the Jumbos.
  • Tufts, however, rallied in the top of the fifth and scored two runs to even the game at 5–5 as the matchup neared its conclusion — ultimately forcing extra innings.
  • The Jumbos would drive in four runs in the top of the 8th inning, forcing the Terriers to respond with the season on the line.
  • But the Terriers would find a response, scoring four runs of their own in thrilling fashion to extend the game into the ninth inning and keep their season alive.
  • The Terriers would hold the Jumbos in the top of the ninth inning, and would ultimately score the game winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning off a balk from the Jumbos pitcher, advancing the Terriers to the next round of playoffs.
  • The Terriers' pitching staff played a pivotal role in the victory over the Jumbos, with Andrew Rapoza, Wyatt Smith, Bryce Dillon, and Evan Pupka all making appearances on the mound. The group combined to allow just eight hits while recording five strikeouts on the day.
  • Nick Griffel led the Terriers' offense against the Jumbos with a strong outing, finishing the day going 2-for-3 with a double, while adding three RBIs, two runs scored, and two walks.
