Baseball Drops Heartbreaker in SUNY Cobleskill Doubleheader

Waterville, ME – Baseball dropped two close contests to the SUNY Cobleskill Fighting Tigers on Monday, April 18th, 2025. The final scores were 6-8 and 13-14.
 
How it Happened:
 
Game One
  • Both teams traded runs in the first inning after a Cam Haynes single scored Hayden Dippner to make it 1-1.
  • The Terriers kept consistent, scoring a single run in the next two innings thanks to Elijah Morton and Jason Bartlett driving home runs.
  • Despite the consistency, the Fighting Tigers ralled in the third and fourth innings to take a 6-3 lead.
  • Neither team would score until the seventh inning, when the Fighting Tigers scored two to make it 8-3.
  • With their backs against the wall, the Terriers swung the game's momentum.
  • Haynes sent a monster double down the left field line that scored Dippner to make it 4-8.
  • DJ Cagnina followed up with a triple to deep right center field that scored Haynes to make it 5-8.
  • Jandre Rivera-Caraballo sent a single to left field that scored Cagnina, but the Terriers ultimately couldn't complete the comeback, with the score ending in a 6-8 loss.

Inside the Stats:  
Game Two
  • Both team's bats came alive in game two, with the Terriers scoring the game's first two runs in the bottom of the first inning.
  • Dippner scored on a passed ball and Cagnina sent another shot that scored Morton.
  • The Fighting Tigers responded by scoring five runs in the second inning, making it 4-5 headed into the third.
  • The Terriers got the better of the Fighting Tigers in the third inning, scoring three runs to their two.
  • Rivera-Caraballo, Matt Seymour, and Morton all earned RBIs as the Terriers tied things at 7-7.
  • Rivera-Carballo would strike again in the fourth inning, scoring Haynes to take an 8-7 lead.
  • The Terriers tacked on a combined five more runs in the seventh and eight innings after an inside the park home run from Morton and a home run from Tony Meza to make it 13-8.
  • Despite the Terriers best efforts, the Fighting Tigers were able to complete the comeback in the ninth inning and win 14-13.
  • There are positive takeaways despite the loss, both Morton and Meza scored home runs, while first year Justin Conn pitched well through six innings.
