Softball Splits Day One of 2025 Season

Winter Haven, FL – The Terriers started their 2025 season splitting their first two games. The first game of the day was against Suffolk University and ended in a 6-2 loss. They then turned things around late in game two again Gordon College to win 5-4 in extra innings. 
 
Game 1: 
  • After a quick pitching change at the top of the first, the Terriers allowed just one run due to a single to center field.
  • Two Thomas runners were left on base as Suffolk extended their lead with three more runs in the second inning.
  • Thomas scored their first runs of the season when Teresa McLinden hit a single up the middle, driving in Kayla Duhaime, who had singled earlier. A subsequent infield error allowed First-Year Carlie Jarvais to score the Terriers' second and final run of the game.
  • At the top of the fifth, Suffolk added their fifth run with a single to left-center field.
  • in the bottom of the sixth the Terriers got two runners on base when Maddy Morris singled and Leah Knight beat out a bunt. However, they were unable to bring a run across.
  • Suffolk scored their final run, making the final score 6-2 in their favor.
 
Inside the Stats:   
Game 2:
  • Gordon took an early lead, scoring their first run in the bottom of the first after shutting down Thomas's first three batters.
  • The Terriers got runners to second and third in the second inning but couldn't capitalize.
  • The Scots extended their lead to 2-0 after the second inning, scoring off an infield error.
  • In the bottom of the fourth, Abby Farone made a diving effort in center field but couldn't hold onto the ball, allowing Gordon to score two more runs.
  • Neither team found much success until the top of the seventh, when Thomas scored four runs to tie the game.
  • Three consecutive singles loaded the bases for first-year Maddy Morris, who delivered a single to score Leah Knight and Layla Pickering.
  • Carlie Jarvais followed with a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Farone, and Makayla Panich brought Morris home to tie the game.
  • Gordon couldn't score in the bottom of the seventh, sending the game into extra innings.
  • In the top of the eighth, Emily Rock laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Maeve Hickok to third, and Pickering hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring the winning run.
  • Despite Gordon getting a runner to third, relief pitcher Addy Boyce shut down their offense, securing the 5-4 victory for Thomas.
 
Inside the Stats: 
  • Megan Oberholzer pitched the first 5 innings tallying four strikeouts. 
  • Addy Boyce finished three complete innings earning two strikeouts and only allowing two hits. 
  • Maddy Morris ended with 1 hit and two RBI's. 

What's Next: 
  •  The Terriers will start tomorrow with a 10:30 AM game against Beloit College, followed by Hood College at 3:00 PM in Bartow, FL.
