Men’s Lacrosse Falls to Amcats 9-10 in Triple Overtime Heartbreaker

Paxton, MA – Men's Lacrosse traveled to Paxton, Massachusetts to take on the Anna Maria College Amcats in a non-conference matchup on Monday, March 24th, but would be defeated in triple overtime by a final score of 9-10. Timothy Worster led the Terriers offense against the Amcats, finishing the contest with five goals off eight shots on goal and a ground ball.

How it Happened: 

  • Connor Hamilton would strike first for the Terriers, scoring the first goal of the contest just over five minutes into the game off a Wyatt Lyons assist.
  • Worster added to the Terriers' lead midway through the first quarter, scoring off W. Lyons' second assist of the game. 
  • The Amcats would get on the board with a goal near the end of the first quarter, but a late goal from Worster assisted by Hunter Simpson would give the Terriers a 3-1 lead after one-quarter of play. 
  • The Terriers would gain an extra man opportunity off an Amcats penalty midway through the second and would capitalize off the penalty with Worster's third goal of the game assisted by Hamilton, extending the Terrier's lead to three goals. 
  • W. Lyons would close out the second quarter with an unassisted goal to give the Terriers a 5-1 lead headed into halftime. 
  • Owen Lyons would add to the Terrier lead to open the third quarter, scoring an early unassisted goal to make it a 6-1 game. 
  • But the Amcats would rally late in the third, closing the quarter with three goals to cut the Terriers lead to just two goals heading into the fourth quarter. 
  • The Amcats would flip the momentum of the game in the fourth, scoring four straight goals in the fourth quarter to put the Terriers down 6-8 with less than eight minutes to play. 
  • But the Terriers would respond minutes later, with Worster scoring two goals assisted by O. Lyons and Tyler Gay respectively to tie the game up at 8-8. 
  • W. Lyons would give the Terriers the lead in the final minutes of the quarter, but the Amcats would respond with a goal to tie the game up less than a minute later to force overtime. 
  • Both teams would have multiple scoring and man-up opportunities in the first two overtime periods, but neither team could find a game-winner, and the game would advance to a third overtime. 
  • But the Amcats would find the game-winner late in the third overtime period and would hand the Terriers a heartbreaking 9-10 non-conference loss in triple overtime.

  • The Terriers will be back in action on Wednesday, March 26th, traveling to Weston, Massachusetts to take on the Regis College Pride in a non-conference match-up. Match time is scheduled for 4 PM.
