Baseball Unable to Overcome High-Powered Mass. Maritime Offense

Buzzards Bay, MA – Baseball was unable to overcome the Massachusetts Maritime Academy Buccaneers' high-powered offense in a doubleheader on Saturday, March 22nd, 2025. The final scores were 5-12 and 8-11.
 
Game One:
 
How it Happened:
  • The Terriers got on the scoreboard first, with DJ Cagnina sending a single down the left field line that scored Hayden Dippner to make it 1-0.
  • The Buccaneers fired right back with two runs of their own to make it 1-2 headed into the second.
  • Bryce Bardwell sent a two-run home run past the fence in the second inning to make it 3-2.
  • The Buccaneers once again bounced back, scoring five runs in the third to make it 3-7.
  • Gavin Clark also hit a home run, a solo shot to make it 4-7 in the fourth inning.
  • The Buccaneers offense came alive in the bottom of the fourth inning once again, scoring several runs to make it 4-11.
  • Cagnina sent a double into left field in the fifth inning that scored Elijah Morton to make it 5-11.
  • The Buccaneers tacked on one more run in the fifth inning, and neither team scored in the final two to end things in a 5-12 loss for the Terriers.

Game Two:

How it Happened:
  • Game two proved to be a much closer matchup, with the Buccaneers striking first to score five runs in the bottom of the second inning.
  • The Terriers bounced back with four runs of their own in the third inning, thanks to good baserunning and hitting.
  • Cam Haynes hit a sacrifice fly that scored Dippner to make it 1-5.
  • Matt Seymour sent a big double to center field that scored Javier Diaz, Tony Meza, and Morton to make it 4-5.
  • Despite the Terrier momentum, the Buccaneers scored three more runs in the bottom of the third inning to take an 8-4 lead.
  • A walk to Seymour scored Haynes in the fifth inning to make it 5-8.
  • Aaron Young sent a single to right center field soon after, scoring Diaz and Jandre Rivera-Caraballo to make it 7-8.
  • After holding the Buccaneers in the fifth, Haynes stepped up and hit a solo home run to tie things up 8-8 headed into the closing stages of the game.
  • Once again despite the momentum, the Buccaneers scored three runs in the bottom of the inning to give them an 11-8 lead.
  • The Terriers were unable to score in the final two innings, leading to an 8-11 loss.

  • Baseball will look to bounce back when they travel to Southern Maine Community College on Sunday, March 23rd, 2025. First pitch is set for 2:00 PM.
