Bartow, FL – The Thomas College Softball team faced Ohio Northern University and the College of St. Scholastica on Thursday, March 13. On the fifth day of their competition, the Terriers secured two wins: a 3-1 victory over the Polar Bears and a 7-1 win against the Saints.
Game 1: Terriers 3, Ohio Northern University 1
How It Happened:
- Game one was a defensive battle as both teams remained scoreless until the 6th inning.
- The Terriers had several scoring opportunities but left nine runners on base before breaking the deadlock.
- In the bottom of the 6th, Leah Knight sparked the offense with a triple to center field.
- Maddy Morris followed a walk by Senior Abby Farone with a single to center, driving in Knight.
- An error by the Polar Bears' catcher allowed Farone to score, and Kayla Duhaime added a sacrifice fly to bring in Morris.
- Ohio Northern managed one run in the top of the 7th with a double to left field, but the Terriers held on for a 3-1 win.
Inside the Stats:
- Sophomore Addy Boyce pitched a complete game, striking out four batters while allowing six hits and two walks.
- Makayla Panich had a solid performance at the plate, going 2-for-3.
Game 2: Terriers 7, College of St. Scholastica 1
How It Happened:
- Maeve Hickok opened the scoring with her first career home run in the top of the second inning.
- The Terriers widened the lead in the 4th inning after two quick outs. Walks by Layla Pickering, Leah Knight, and Abby Farone loaded the bases for Maddy Morris, who delivered a single to center, driving in Pickering and Knight.
- Carlie Jarvais followed with a single to left field, scoring Farone and Morris. An error in left field allowed Jarvais to circle the bases, bringing the score to 6-0.
- The Terriers' outfield made key defensive plays throughout the game, limiting scoring opportunities for the Saints.
- In the 7th inning, Megan Oberholzer led off with a single to left, and Brooke Smith entered as a pinch runner. After Emily Rock walked, Leah Knight singled to right center, scoring Smith from second base.
- The Saints managed one run in the bottom of the 7th with a single up the middle but could not close the gap, resulting in a 7-1 win for Thomas.
Inside the Stats:
- Megan Oberholzer earned the win, recording three strikeouts while allowing one walk and seven hits.
What's Next:
The Terriers wrap up their Florida trip with two games on Friday, March 14. They face Albertus Magnus College at 11:30 a.m., followed by Earlham College at 2:00 p.m.
