Men's Basketball Drops NAC Conference Opener to Eagles

Waterville, ME - Men's Basketball hosted Husson University in their North Atlantic Conference opener on Friday, November 21st, but fell to the Eagles by a final score of 71-85. Despite the loss, sophomore guard TJ Blackmon would lead the Terriers offense with an impressive performance, ending the night with 20 points while shooting 9-12 from the field.

How it Happened:
  • The Terriers would claim the momentum early in the first half, completing a 9-3 run thanks to Payton Mitchell, Yasmo Mohamud, Isiah Corson, and Jayden Desimone.
  • A small offensive run from the Eagles would make it a tie game minutes later, but strong buckets from Blackmon in the paint would give the Terriers the lead once again.
  • Both teams would trade points midway through the first, but another offensive run from the Eagles would put the Terriers down 19-27 with less than seven minutes remaining in the half.
  • The Terriers would generate some momentum in the final minutes of the first, closing out the half with points from Mohamud, Corson, and Blackmon, to make it 30-35 heading into halftime.
  • Husson would open the second half with back-to-back three-pointers, but five consecutive points from Blackmon minutes later would make it a three-point game.
  • Blackmon, Mohamud and Corson would continue to fuel the Terriers offense midway through the second half, but another scoring run from the Eagles shortly after would put the Terriers deficit back into double digits.
  • The Terriers would continue to battle late in the second half, with Jayden Kim and Nate Hebert finding responses to the Eagles defensive pressure.
  • A thunderous put back dunk from Blackmon would give the Terriers offense life with less than five minutes to play in the game.
  • But despite the Terriers efforts, the Eagles would ultimately hold on to hand the Terriers their first North Atlantic Conference loss of the season by a final score of 71-85.
