Richards Leads Field Hockey to Scrappy 3-1 Win Against Farmington

Farmington, ME - Kara Richards was involved in all three Terrier goals as the team earned a scrappy 3-1 win in a road matchup against the University of Maine Farmington Beavers on Saturday, October 25th, 2025.

How it Happened:
  • The Terriers got on the scoreboard early, with a good pass from Kara Richards finding Maci Freeman, who scored to make it 1-0.
  • Freeman's shot was the only for either team all quarter, and both teams headed into the second looking to strike.
  • Five minutes into the second the Terriers were awarded two penalty corners, but couldn't generate a quality chance.
  • Good defending from both teams meant neither could generate any key opportunities until late in the quarter.
  • With less than 30 seconds to go until halftime Terrier goalkeeper Eliya Drummond was forced to make a good save from a penalty corner to keep the lead headed into the break.
  • The third quarter started how the second did, with both teams battling for the ball in midfield.
  • Eventually with three minutes left in the quarter Tatiana Roque found Richards, who scored to double the Terrier lead.
  • Just 20 seconds later the Beavers struck right back with a goal of their own, giving them momentum.
  • The Beavers put pressure on the Terriers late on in the third quarter, with several shots being blocked or saved by Drummond.
  • Heading into the fourth quarter the momentum had shifted again, with shots from Richards and Thebarge forcing saves from the Beaver goalkeeper.
  • Three minutes into the quarter the Terriers were awarded a penalty stroke, and Richards scored her second of the game to make it 3-1.
  • Both teams traded chances for the remainder of the game, with Drummond making two crucial stops to earn the 3-1 win.
