Field Hockey Comes up Short in Double Overtime Thriller Against Colby

Waterville, ME - Field Hockey narrowly fell in what was a double overtime thriller against Colby College at home on Monday, October 20th, 2025. The final score was 0-1 in what were difficult weather conditions.

How it Happened:
  • Both teams started out in a midfield battle, with no clear chances either way in the first nine minutes.
  • With six minutes remaining in the first quarter Terrier goalkeeper Eliya Drummond was forced to make two good saves to keep the Mules out.
  • Heading into the second quarter the Mules continued to put pressure on the Terriers, but strong defending from McKenzie Clay, Maci Freeman, and Isabella Pelletier made it difficult for the Mules to gain any ground.
  • The Terriers earned their first real opportunity with four minutes to go until halftime, when a shot from Samantha Thebarge forced a good save from the Mules goalkeeper.
  • Both teams went into the second half hungry for a goal, tied at 0-0.
  • Neither team could generate any clear-cut attacking opportunities for most of the third thanks to good defending.
  • Early in the fourth quarter Thebarge made a crucial defensive save after the Mules earned a penalty corner, ensuring the game stayed 0-0.
  • The final chance of regulation for either team came with seven minutes to go, when a shot from Freeman forced a good save from the Mules goalkeeper.
  • Heading into the first overtime period the Mules piled on the pressure, but the Terriers once again remained strong with several blocked shots.
  • With neither team able to break the deadlock, a second overtime period was needed.
  • Drummond was called into action early on in the second overtime, making three impressive saves early on to give the Terriers a fighting chance.
  • With three minutes remaining in the second overtime Leah Knight had an opportunity headed toward goal, but the Mule goalkeeper came up with a huge stop to deny the chance.
  • Two minutes later a shot from the Mules forced another save from Drummond, but an unlucky deflection led to another attempt on goal, and the Mules converted the rebound to hand the Terriers a 0-1 loss.
  • Despite the result the Terriers played extremely well against a talented Colby College squad.
