Women's Basketball Storms Past Broncos in 66-48 Conference Victory

Waterville, ME - Mollie Gray would score 16 points, shooting 11 for 17 from the field to help lead Women's Basketball to an 66-48 victory over the SUNY Delhi Broncos in a North Atlantic Conference match up on Tuesday, January 7th.

How it Happened:
  • Both the Terriers and the Broncos would go back and forth to start the first quarter, but a three-pointer from Emily Hagerty give the Terriers a 5-point lead early on.
  • The Broncos would cut into the Terriers lead midway through the first quarter, but Sky Kubwalo and Mollie Gray would combine for 9 points in less than two minutes to shift the momentum of the quarter.
  • Strong defensive efforts from the Terriers in the final minutes of the first quarter would give them a 25-15 lead heading into the second quarter.
  • Holly Loring would take control of the Terriers offense to start the second, scoring 5 quick points in the first few minutes of quarter to extend the Terriers lead.
  • The Broncos would continue to try and flip the momentum late in the second quarter, but points from Kubwalo, Gray and Elena Alderman would help give the Terriers a 37-29 lead at the half.
  •  Gray, Loring and Yaribel Pena would keep the Terriers offense going early in the third, each knocking down layups to extend the Terriers lead to 14 points.
  • The Terriers would excel on both sides of the ball in the third quarter, outscoring the Broncos 17-7 in the third quarter to give the Terriers a 54-36 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
  • A quick run from the Broncos in the fourth would cut into the Terriers lead, but Pena, Gray and Sarah Davis would keep the momentum in the hands of the Terriers, each scoring to help keep the game out of reach. 
  • Despite the Broncos comeback efforts, the Terriers would take control of the remainder of the quarter, and would give the Terriers 66-48 victory in their their second conference win of the season.

The Terriers will be back in action on Saturday, January 11th, as they will travel to Lyndonville, Vermont to take on the Vermont State University Lyndon Hornets. Tip-Off is scheduled for 3 PM.
