Women’s Basketball Falls Short to Vikings in Non-Conference Matchup

Waterville, ME – Women's Basketball would host the Salem State University Vikings in a non-conference matchup on Saturday, January 4th, but would fall short by a score of 79-65.

Thomas College: Overall (1-9), NAC (1-1)

Salem State University: Overall (6-7)

How it Happened:

  • Sky Kubwalo would get the Terriers going in the first quarter, scoring all of the Terriers five points in the first few minutes of play.

  • Elena Alderman, Kay McLellan, and Mollie Gray would continue to add to the momentum late in the first quarter with points of their own to put the Terriers up 20-18 after one quarter of play.

  • Gray and Holly Loring would put the Terriers up five points early in the second quarter, but the Vikings would go on a run of their own and reclaim the lead midway through the quarter.

  • Both teams would go back and forth late in the second quarter, but the Terriers would find themselves down 41-35 after two quarters of play.

  • The Terriers would look to flip the momentum in the third quarter, with Bri Benecke and Sarah Davis cutting the Terriers deficit to just three points midway through the quarter.

  • But Salem State would quickly respond with a 7-0 run to regain the momentum.

  • Alderman and Loring would combine for 9 points in the final two minutes of the third quarter, but the Terriers would still find themselves down 52-49 heading into the fourth.

  • Kubwalo, Gray and Loring would take control of the Terriers offense early in the fourth quarter and would continue to cut into the Vikings lead.

  • But the Vikings would ultimately take control of the remainder of the quarter and would hand the Terriers a 79-65 loss.
