Women’s Basketball Falls to Bengals 66-79

Fort Kent, ME – Women's Basketball were defeated by the University of Maine Fort Kent Bengals by a score of 66-79, on Saturday, January 25th, 2025.

Thomas College: Overall (6-13), NAC (6-3) 

University of Maine Fort Kent: Overall (7-6) 

How it Happened: 

  • The Bengals would jump out to an early lead to start the first quarter. 

  • The Terriers would build some momentum midway through the first with a 7-0 run thanks to Yaribel Pena and Sky Kubwalo

  • However, the Bengals would go on a run of their own late in the first quarter to put the Terriers down 13-18.

  • Mollie Gray would give the Terriers some momentum in the second with four quick points to start the quarter. 

  • Both teams would go back and forth offensively midway through the second quarter, but the Terriers would find themselves down 32-37 heading into the half. 

  • The Bengals would come out of the half hot, opening the quarter with a scoring run to put the Terriers down 32-42. 

  • Kubwalo and Pena would continue cut into the Bengals lead midway through the third quarter, but the Bengals offensive would continue to hit tough shots to respond to the Terriers. 

  • Sarah Davis, Mariah Roberts and Pena would cut the Bengals lead to just single digits late in the third, but the Terriers would head into the fourth quarter down 51-59. 

  • An early scoring run in the fourth from Fort Kent would give the Bengals a double-digit lead with less than eight minutes to play. 

  • Roberts and Holly Loring would combine for eight quick points midway through the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to just eight points. 

  • Loring and Pena would try to generate some momentum late in the fourth, but the Bengals would shut down the Terriers in the final two minutes of play, holding on to hand the Terriers a 66-79 loss.

  • The Terriers will return to action on Wednesday, January 29th, traveling to Worcester, Massachusetts, to take on the Worcester State University Lancers in a non-conference match. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 PM.
