Field Hockey Takes Down Colby-Sawyer College in 2024 Home Opener

Waterville, ME – Field Hockey posted a solid all-around team performance in their 2024 home opener, taking down Colby-Sawyer College by a score of 3-0 on Saturday, September 7th, 2024.

How it Happened:  
  • The Terriers opened up the game quickly, generating three quality chances in the opening minutes, before Kara Richards found the back of the net thanks to an assist from Callie Moran
  • Both teams went back-and-forth with possession for the majority of the quarter and were unable to generate any other quality scoring chances. 
  • The Terriers began the second quarter with a flurry of chances, generating five penalty corners in the span of three minutes.
  • Shots from Samantha Thebarge, Julia Reny, and Richards were all saved by the Charger goalkeeper.
  • Avery Herrick scored an unassisted goal a minute later, and the Terriers took an important 2-0 lead into halftime.
  • One minute into the third quarter Thebarge had her shot saved by the Chargers' goalkeeper once again.
  • The Chargers then gained momentum, generating six penalty corners and some quality looks on goal over the next eight minutes.
  • Syphers was able to come up big with a back-to-back save during that time to preserve the 2-0 lead.
  • Despite the Chargers' chances, the Terriers defense remained strong - as the team used that momentum to earn two penalty corners in the final seconds on the quarter.
  • Thebarge had another look on goal with almost no time left, this time shooting just wide of the Charger net.
  • On a penalty corner with four minutes left in the game Reny's shot was blocked off the goal line by a Charger defender.
  • Seconds later the Terriers earned another penalty corner, with Molly Littlefield finding the final touch in a scramble to score.
  • The Terriers were able to deny any other Charger chances for the remainder of the game and walked away with a 3-0 win.

  • Field Hockey will look to continue their success as they take on Rivier University at home on Sunday, September 8th, 2024. Game time is set for 1:00 PM.
