Waterville, ME – Thomas College will be adding Men's Club Soccer, with former collegiate coach and NCAA Division I player Kiaran McCormack named to lead the program. McCormack will also join the coaching staff as an assistant coach to the NCAA Men's Soccer program. The club team will compete in the National Intramural and Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) and will start competition in the Fall of 2025.
McCormack is originally from Kilsaran, Ireland. In 2003 McCormack attended NCAA Division I University of Vermont. He then transferred to fellow NCAA Division I school University of Maine Orono, where he graduated with a degree in Kinesiology in 2008. McCormack was named to the NCAA Division I New England All-Star in his senior year at Orono and went on to get his master's degree in Exercise Science from California University of Pennsylvania in 2012.
For the past two years McCormack has served as the Head Men's Soccer Coach at Central Maine Community College (CMCC), during this time he guided the team to back-to-back Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) league titles and championships, both undefeated. In his time at CMCC McCormack coached several All-Conference and All-American players, and a Player of the Year. McCormack also won the YSCC Coach of the Year in both his seasons at CMCC.
McCormack has also been a Head Coach at Seacoast United since 2014. He currently coaches the Under-15 Elite Boys and has won four tournaments with them. In 2021 he coached Seacoast United's Under-17 Boys Team, where he also had success.
Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics Christopher Parsons stated, "We are very fortunate to have Kiaran joining our athletic department. He comes to us from Central Maine Community College, where he most recently led the team to back-to-back USCAA National Semi-Final appearances. Kiaran also has a very impressive playing background, and went on to play semi-professionally with the Western Mass Pioneers, the Maine Sting, and the Maine Mariners of the NPSL."
McCormack's coaching style revolves around a holistic approach. He likes to set a vision for the season, along with expectations, style of play, and boundaries. He believes building relationships is important to the team's success, and quality training sessions help build focus toward games.
When asked about what he is looking forward to and what excites him about the new addition to Thomas Athletics, McCormack said, Club Men's Soccer "offers student-athletes another opportunity to enhance their collegiate experience. I am looking forward to helping student-athletes become a better version of themselves, and to create some memories they will remember for the rest of their lives."
In his free time McCormack participates in obstacle course races across that have taken him across the United States.
