Saratoga Springs, NY – Field Hockey began their season with an away matchup against a talented Skidmore College squad. The final score was 1-5 on Friday, August 30
th, 2024.
How it Happened:
- The Thoroughbreds struck first five minutes into the game, but Julia Reny would respond four minutes later with a great scoring opportunity that was ultimately saved.
- The Terriers defended well in the first quarter and headed into the second only down 0-1.
- Elise Syphers would made an important save four minutes into the second to keep the game within reach.
- Both teams struggled to generate any clear-cut opportunities in the second, but the Thoroughbreds squeezed in a goal with six seconds remaining in the half to take a 2-0 lead.
- The Terriers started the second half well, generating two scoring opportunities in the first three minutes.
- Avery Herrick's shot was just wide of the opposing net, and Reny's shot was blocked a minute later.
- The Thoroughbreds scored again with eight minutes left in the quarter to take a 3-0 lead.
- Despite the score, the Terriers outshot the Thoroughbreds 3-2 in the third quarter.
- 25 Seconds into the fourth quarter the Terriers would get on the scoreboard thanks to a good pass from Herrick and goal from Leah Knight.
- The Thoroughbreds would respond two minutes later with a goal of their own and added another four minutes after that.
- The Terriers put in a good showing, but ultimately fell 1-5 on their first road game of the weekend.
