Bangor, ME – Thomas College Softball stared off day one of the NAC Championship Weekend with an electric 8-6 win against the University of Maine Farmington. After winning their first game the Terriers would take on No. 1 in the NAC West, SUNY Poly. After only getting one hit in the game Thomas would fall 6-0 to the Wildcats.
How it Happened:
Game 1; University of Maine Farmington
- The Terriers started out strong in the first inning scoring three runs. Maddie Rock hit a double to left center brining in Layla Pickering and Leah Knight. Megan Oberholzer hit in M. Rock with a double of her own to left center.
- The Beavers did respond back immediately scoring four runs in the bottom of the first off five hits.
- Thomas tied up the game after M. Rock hit her second double of the game, scoring Knight.
- The Terriers would continue to add runs, scoring their fifth in the fourth inning. Abby Farone would hit an infield RBI scoring Brooklyn Federico who hit a triple the pervious at bat.
- Oberholzer hit her second RBI in the fifth inning, again scoring Knight to make the score 6-4.
- UMF added one run in the bottom of the fifth inning, keeping the game at a close 6-5 score.
- In the top of the seventh inning the Terriers would break away scoring two runs. First an RBI from M. Rock scoring Pickering. Then Oberholzer put the ball in play and reached first by an UMF error simultaneously scoring Knight.
- The Beavers would hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the seventh inning, but were shut down by the Terriers infield. Final score 8-6 Thomas.
Inside the Stats:
- Knight would go 3-4 at the plate, along with 1 putout and 1 assist in the field.
- M. Rock went 2-4 with 4 RBI's and 2 doubles.
- Oberholzer would have her first debut in the circle since March 8th. She also went 2-4 at the plate with 2 RBI's and 1 double.
Game 2; SUNY Poly
- Game two would be a quick game between the Terriers and Wildcats.
- Kayla Duhaime would be Thomas's only hit after getting on first, off a bunt.
- The Wildcats scored their first three runs in the third inning off a three-run home run.
- They added their fourth run in the next inning with a single RBI to right field.
- Their final two runs were scored in the bottom of the sixth after another home run.
Inside the Stats:
- Addy Boyce started in the mound for the Terriers and pitched four full innings.
- Jennie Whitten then relieved Boyce in the fifth inning and finished out the game.
What's Next:
The Terriers will take on SUNY Cobleskill at 11am on Friday, May 10
th at Husson University in Day Two of the NAC Championship Weekend.
