Baseball Takes Two Versus Visiting UMF

Waterville, ME – Thomas Baseball took both ends of a double header versus the visiting University of Maine Farmington Beavers on Friday, May 3rd, 2024. The final scores were 7-0 and 14-2 thanks to a strong offensive performance in the two seven inning games.

How it Happened:

Game One

  • The Terriers would start game one well, scoring in the first inning thanks to Elijah Morton. Morton would reach first on a bunt single. After stealing second he would move up to third on a passed ball before scoring on another passed ball.
  • In the bottom of the second Matt Seymour would lead off with a double down the left field line.
  • Patrick Temby and Jason Bartlett would follow with walks to load the bases. Hayden Dippner would hit a sacrifice fly to center field to bring home Seymour.
  • Morton would bring home two more runs when he doubled to left field to stretch the score to 4-0.
  • In the fifth inning the Terriers would strike again, this time Tony Meza would lead off with a single, and he would score on a DJ Cagnina double to left field.
  • Later in the inning Samuel Keblinsky and Cagnina would both score on an error to bring the score to 7-0.
  • That would be more then enough run support for Terriers starter Andrew Pruell, as he would go the distance allowing just four hits and one walk while striking out seven. The win would bring Pruell's season record to 6-1 and would bring his ERA down to 3.47. The Terriers would go on to win game one 7-0.

Game Two

  • In game two the Terriers would come out swinging. Cameron Haynes brought home the first run with a RBI single to left field that plated Morton.
  • Seymour would follow with a single of his own that brought home Haynes.
  • Aaron Young would then get on thanks to an RBI single, leading to an eventual score from Seymour thanks to a wild pitch.
  • Bartlett would cap off the inning with a RBI single to bring home Young, and the inning would end with the hosts up 5-0.
  • In the second inning the Terriers would add another run. Meza would advance to third thanks to a walk, error, and passed ball.
  • Cagnina would shortly after send a double to left field to score Meza.
  • The Beavers would respond and score two runs in the fourth inning, making it 6-2.
  • The Terriers came right back in the bottom of the inning. This time Keblinsky would single up the middle, and steal second and third. Keblinsky then was able to capitalize on an error to score.
  • In the fifth inning the Terriers would tack on three more runs thanks to a sacrifice fly from Morton and a Haynes ground ball that forced an error from the Beavers.
  • In the bottom of the sixth inning the Terriers would cap off a strong offensive showing with a Mitch Regan single that scored Seymour.
  • Morton would follow up with a sacrifice fly that scored Young.
  • Meza would conclude the scoring with a double that scored Dippner and Regan.
  • The final score would see the Terriers walk away with a 14-2 victory, completing the sweep on the day.
