Baseball Splits Doubleheader Against Hornets

Waterville, ME – Baseball split games against the Vermont State University Lyndon Hornets in a doubleheader on Monday, April 8th, 2024. Game one ended in a 11-4 win and game two ended in a 0-5 loss. These games were played at Colby College and served as the second and third matchups between these teams this season. 
 
Thomas College: Overall (6-10), NAC (2-1)
Vermont State University Lyndon: Overall (2-14), NAC (1-2)
 
Game One:
 
How it Happened:
  • The Terriers took the first lead of the game in the bottom of the first inning thanks to a sacrifice fly from Jeremy Spencer, which scored Elijah Morton to make it 1-0.
  • Both teams scored in the second inning as the Hornets briefly took the lead, but Samuel Keblinsky scored on a passed ball to tie things up at 2-2.
  • Thanks to Patrick Temby, Jason Bartlett, Morton, Matt Seymour, and a home run from Keblinsky, the Terriers brought in a combined eight runs in the fourth inning to take a commanding 10-2 lead over the Hornets.
  • The Hornets were looking to battle back, as they tacked on two runs in the fifth inning to make it 10-4.
  • The Terriers scored the final run of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning, as Tony Meza singled to left field, which scored Bartlett to make it 11-4.
  • Neither team scored in the remaining two innings, meaning the Terriers earned a 11-4 win in game one.

Game Two:
 
How it Happened:
  • Neither team could get anything going until the second inning, when a Hornets home run saw them take a 2-0 lead over the Terriers.
  • The Terriers had two players on base in the bottom of the second inning but were unable to capitalize.
  • The Hornets scored another run in the third inning, extending their lead to three runs.
  • The Hornets tacked on another two runs in the top of the fourth to make it 5-0, but there was still enough time for the Terriers to attempt a comeback.
  • Hits from Morton and Aaron Young in the bottom of the fifth eventually led to the bases being loaded, but again the Terriers were unable to capitalize, and the score remained 5-0 in favor of the Hornets.
  • The Terriers once again found themselves in a bases loaded situation in the sixth but were again unable to bring home any runs.
  • Neither team were able to score in the seventh inning, and as a result the Terriers were handed a 0-5 loss.

  • Baseball will continue their season at home in a doubleheader against the University of Maine Presque Isle on Saturday, April 13th, 2024. Game times are scheduled for 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM.
