Baseball Splits Day Two Against Lynx

Cambridge, MA – Thomas College Baseball finished their weekend series Lesley University splitting the doubleheader. The Terriers started off the day with a huge 14-3 win, clinching their win by scoring 10 runs in the seventh inning. In game two the Terriers would fall short 2-4 even after a late game effort.
 
The Records:
Thomas College: Overall (12-16), NAC (8-7)
Lesley University: Overall (22-12), NAC (12-4)
 
How it Happened:
 
Game 1
  • The Lynx were the first on the board and scored all three of their runs in the third inning. That included three hits, one double and one triple.
  • Thomas immediately answered in the top of the fourth inning, scoring four runs. DJ Cagnina was the first run scored after Hayden Dippner hit him in with a single to left field. Patrick Temby was the next to score after a fielder's choice error from the Lynx. Tony Meza then singled to left field, scoring both Elijah Morton and Dippner before the inning ended.
  • The next two innings were quiet for both teams before Thomas sealed the win in the seventh inning.
  • The Terriers would go on to add 10 runs in the top of the seventh inning after nine hits and almost going through the lineup twice. Doubles would come from both Temby and Jason Bartlett. Cagnina, Morton, Meza, Cam Haynes, Matt Seymour would all go to hit singles in the inning.
  • Final score 14-3 Thomas
 
Inside the Stats:
  • Jarrad Willette pitched the full seven innings for the Terriers striking out one batter and allowing no earned runs.
  • Cagnina ended 5-5 at the plate, 2 RBI's, and earned 3 of the Thomas runs.
  • Meza would go 2-2, hitting 4 RBI's, and walked once.
 
Game 2
  • Lesley earned the first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning after an RBI single to left field.
  • A second Lynx run was added in the third inning with another RBI single to left.
  • Unable to gain any momentum, the Terriers found themselves down 3-0 after another run was scored by Lesley in the fourth inning.
  • In the top of the fifth inning Aaron Young started off with a triple, Dippner was then able to hit a double to right center bringing in Young for the Terriers first run of the game.
  • In the bottom of the sixth a solo Lynx home run scored their fourth and final run of the game.
  • With two outs in the final inning Haynes was able to get a ball though the left side scoring Barlett who hit a double in the first at bat of the inning. This would be the Terriers final run of the game, final score 4-2 Lesley.
 
Inside the Stats:
  • Tyler Cantey started on the mound for the Terriers pitching until the middle of the fifth inning. He struck out four batters.
  • Roy Clayton relieved Cantey in the fifth inning and pitch until Ankit Shah relieved him in the sixth.
  • Dippner went 3-2 at the plate with 1 RBI.
  • Cagnina ended with two hits.
 
What's Next:
The Terriers will have a quick turn around playing their final game at home against Vermont State University Lyndon on Monday, April 29th at 4pm.
