Men’s Soccer Completes Three Goal Comeback to Advance to NAC Championship Game

Waterville, ME – Men's Soccer came back from a 0-2 deficit against the #2 Maine Maritime Academy Mariners to earn a 3-2 win to advance to the 2024 North Atlantic Conference Men's Soccer Championship game on Sunday, November 3rd, 2024.

How it Happened:  
  • The Terriers started the game well, as shots from Tristan Kjartansson and David Ivarsson forced two saves out of the Mariners goalkeeper in the 12th minute.
  • Despite the Terrier chances the Mariners had several looks on goal, forcing two saves from goalkeeper Jamie Fischer.
  • In the 31st minute a cross found the head of a Mariner player, and he scored to make it 1-0.
  • With less than a minute left to play a long-range effort from Kjartansson forced another save from the Mariners goalkeeper.
  • The Terriers went into the locker room down 0-1 and looked to spark a comeback.
  • Seven minutes into the second half the Mariners were awarded a penalty kick and converted it to take a 2-0 lead over the Terriers.
  • Just five minutes later Micky Woodrow played the ball to Tre Burgess, who found Cody Robinson, who scored to give the Terriers some belief in a comeback.
  • 10 Minutes later the Terriers struck again, as this time a cross from Joshua Joseph found Adam Elkott, who found Harry Clough, who tapped the ball into the net to tie things 2-2.
  • In the 76th minute the Terriers were awarded a penalty kick of their own, but the Mariners keeper dove to keep the ball out of the net, keeping the score line at 2-2.
  • Two minutes later the Mariners were given a red card and were forced to play with 10 players for the remainder of the contest.
  • With 16 seconds left on the clock a bouncing ball in the Mariners defensive box found a pressing Joseph, who got a touch to score, completing a three-goal comeback in front of the home crowd.
  • However, with just one second left on the clock the Mariners had a shot from point-blank range fly above the crossbar, ending things with a 3-2 win for the Terriers.
  • With Joseph's goal and assist, he became the all-time leader in program history for total points with 117.
  • Joseph's goal also pushes him past Christopher Parsons for 6th all time in goals in a single season.

  • Men's Soccer will be back in action as they travel to Delhi, New York, to take on the SUNY Delhi Broncos in the 2024 Men's Soccer NAC Championship match on Saturday, November 9th, at 1:00 PM.
