Hallowell, ME – Men's Ice Hockey won a comeback thriller 3-2 against Worcester Polytechnic Institute on Saturday, November 9
th, 2024, at the newly branded Thomas College Ice Vault.
Thomas College: Overall (5-3)
How it Happened:
- Both teams battled it out in the first period, with neither able to generate any clear-cut goal scoring opportunities.
- In the second period WPI would strike first, scoring seven minutes in to take a 1-0 lead.
- The Terriers would respond just four minutes later, as passes from Caleb Micklon and Quinn Hawley found Hunter Coughlin, who scored to tie things at 1-1.
- Neither team could find the back of the net in the rest of the second period despite some good chances on goal.
- In the third period WPI struck again, scoring with 14 minutes left in the game to make it 2-1.
- With nine minutes remaining Lucas Martin found Joe Fischetto, who found DJ Cagnina.
- Cagnina scored from a top-shelf shot to tie things up again at 2-2.
- With only three minutes remaining Nicholas Fischetto scored, with assists coming from Cagnina and Jonah Bird, to give the Terriers a 3-2 lead.
- Despite WPI having an extra man toward the end, the Terriers defense held strong thanks to some good saves from Matt D'Ortona to earn a 3-2 win.
