Thomas College Esports - Week of 10/14/24 Match Recaps

10/21/2024 9:52:00 PM

  • The week of October 14th was kicked off by the League of Legends team. Thomas was matched up this week against St. Lawrence University. This was an incredibly close series with both teams putting up a great performance throughout. In game one the Terriers came out with an incredibly strong start, creating a major advantage in the early game which set them up for success throughout the mid and late game. However, St. Lawrence started to claw their way back through split pushing the solo lanes and taking tower after tower, eventually taking back control, and closed out the match shortly after. Moving into the second game, Thomas put Marcus Morton on a new pick, Karthus, which he had not played previously in the season. On this new champion, Marcus played an incredible game, slowly accruing a gold lead and absolutely took over in teamfights, tying up the series 1-1. Moving into game 3, the draft was nearly identical, but the performance from the St. Lawrence LoL roster was not. St. Lawrence had a much better showing in the early parts of the game, which led to Thomas having to play from behind and pull themselves up from the trenches. The Terriers showed an incredible amount of grit and resilience, but in the end the deficit was too large, and the Terriers fell 1-2 to St. Lawrence University.

  • Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was next up, with a matchup against another SSBU powerhouse school in Southern New Hampshire University. This week was much the same as the previous, with both Fisher and SNHU currently holding undefeated records. The newly established Smash team at Thomas stood tall in the face of the SNHU roster, but was not able to keep up and fell in their crew's match 0-2.

  • Rocket League Black stepped into the batter's box with an undefeated Durham College at the mound. The series started with Durham in control, dominating throughout game one, winning the match 3-0 over Thomas. Game two was a much closer game with the Terriers biting back, but unfortunately falling to the Lords 3-4. The Thomas Rocket League Black roster looked to bring things back into their favor, but the task was too tall, and the Lords closed out the series with two more wins in games three and four with a 2-6 and 0-3 scoreline.

  • Rocket League Red's match was forfeited by the opposing team, the Pace University Frost, and Thomas Rocket League Red's record will improve to 3-1.

  • Overwatch Black had another successful week in NECC easily beating out Boston University 3-0 improving their record to 4-0. They currently sit at the top of the table in their division. Over the weekend they also again went 1-1 in homecoming winning 2-0 against NJIT and losing a close 2-0 game to Washington. Overwatch Black has a bye in week 5 in NECC but are hoping to go 2-0 in the final week of swiss play in homecoming.

  • Overwatch Red continues to struggle in their division 8 games losing this week to Champlain 3-0 putting their record at 1-3 on the season. The team continues to show improvement but had a tough hill to climb against a strong 3-0 Champlain team.
