Field Hockey Bounces Back With 3-2 Win Over Huskies

Waterville, ME – Field Hockey was able to bounce back and earned a 3-2 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies on Wednesday, October 16th, 2024.

How it Happened:  
  • Within the first three minutes the Terriers were awarded a penalty stroke, and Kara Richards converted with a shot to the top left to give the Terriers a 1-0 lead.
  • The Terriers doubled up three minutes later from a penalty corner.
  • Molly Littlefield inserted the ball to Avery Herrick and set it for Julia Reny, who scored to make it 2-0.
  • The Terrier defense held strong through the first quarter, not allowing the Huskies a single shot.
  • The Terriers started the second quarter well, as an effort from Reny from a penalty corner hit the left post to keep things at 2-0.
  • With three minutes until halftime the Huskies got on the board, scoring to make it 1-2.
  • Terrier goalkeeper Elise Syphers was forced to make a huge save less than two minutes before halftime to keep the lead.
  • Both teams traded possession in the third quarter, but the Terriers had the best chance with three minutes remaining.
  • Callie Moran's shot was saved by the Huskies goalkeeper, and the follow-up effort was just wide.
  • Two minutes into the fourth quarter Tatiana Roque found Hilary Howard, whose shot made it across the goal line to give the Terriers a 3-1 lead.
  • However, the Huskies were able to respond with a goal of their own five minutes later to make things interesting at 3-2.
  • The Terrier defense was able to lock in, preventing the Huskies from generating any shots in the final eight minutes to earn a 3-2 win.

  • Field Hockey will look to continue their success as they take on the University of Maine Farmington Beavers at home on Saturday, October 19th, 2024. This game will serve as the annual "Senior Game", where the team honors their graduating players. Game time is set for 1:00 PM.
