Terriers Struggle to Keep Pace, Fall to Owls

Waterville, ME – Women's Basketball fell short in a conference matchup between the University of Maine Presque Isle Owls and the Thomas College Terriers on January 30th, 2024 by a score of 53-68.

How it Happened:

  • Thomas would take the lead early in the first quarter with five points coming from Brooke Jones.
  • Elena Alderman would pitch in with a three pointer to extend the early lead to 12-5, but UMPI would answer back with a 9-0 run to take a 13-12 lead.
  • Both teams would trade points late in the quarter, and the Owls would lead 15-14 after the end of the first quarter.
  • Emily Parent and Jones would get the Terriers off to another good start in the second quarter, as Parent knocked down a three point shot before Jones would hit a mid range jumper.
  • Kubwalo would pitch in scoring five straight points, but UMPI would keep within striking distance.
  • The Owls would take the lead after going on an 8-0 run.
  • The second UMPI run of the game would give them a 32-28 lead at the half.
  • UMPI would start the second half on fire as the Terriers offense struggled.
  • The Owls would start the second half on a 10-0 run, and it took half the quarter for Thomas to get their first second half points when Alderman knocked down a jumper with 4:54 left.
  • The Thomas offense would start to hit their shots, and they would slowly chip away at the Owls 14 point lead.
  • However, UMPI would do a good job of managing the clock and limited the damage. The visitors would maintain a 10 point lead heading into the fourth quarter.
  • Thomas struggled to keep pace with the high scoring UMPI team throughout the third quarter, as the Owls would shoot 42% from the field.
  • A small run in the third quarter would narrow the lead to 12, but that was the closest the Terriers could get.
  • Thomas would struggle again in the beginning of the fourth. UMPI would start the quarter on a 8-2 run.
  • The Owls had a healthy 17 point lead heading into the final six minutes, and the margin would be too much for the Terriers to overcome as the Owls claimed the conference victory 68-53.
