Women’s Basketball Unable to Overcome Fast Start from Bethel University

Daytona Beach, FL – Women's Basketball was unable to overcome a fast start from Bethel University, leading to a final score of 35-73 in the first match of the Daytona Beach Shootout on December 19th, 2023.

How it Happened:
  • Neither team would score in the first two minutes, until a Bethel three-pointer opened the scoring.
  • Bethel was able to take advantage, going on a 15-2 run in the final four minutes of the first quarter.
  • Bethel would start the second quarter on another scoring spree, going on a 11-1 run until Elena Alderman would sink a three-point shot to take back some momentum.
  • The Terriers ended the first half well, going on to score seven points in the final two minutes.
  • The third quarter was the best scoring-wise for the Terriers, putting up 13 points in that time span. 11 Points came in the final five minutes of that quarter, with Alderman, Sky Kubwalo, Deja Hamilton, Emily Parent, and Hannah Coolen all scoring.
  • Bethel got back to their scoring ways in the fourth quarter, ending the game on a 9-1 scoring run to make the final score 35-73.
 
Inside the Stats:
  • Alderman was the leading scorer for the Terriers with 10 points, while shooting 100% from three. 
  • The Terriers got 16 points combined from their bench, an impressive feat.
  • Bethel University largely dominated points off of turnovers and second chance points, 32-2 and 23-4.

  • Women's Basketball will look to bounce back in day Two of the Daytona Beach Shootout, taking on Alvernia University on Wednesday, December 20th, 2023. Tip-off is TBD.
