Women’s Basketball Drops Game Against Talented Alvernia University Squad

Daytona Beach, FL – Women's Basketball dropped their final game of the Daytona Beach Shootout against a very talented Alvernia University squad, 54-77 on December 20th, 2023.

Alvernia University: Overall (7-2), MAC (0-0)
 
How it Happened:
  • Both teams shot the ball well in the first quarter, with Alvernia hitting five three-point shots in the first quarter.
  • Sam Fortin scored the Terriers first four points as both teams battled to take the lead.
  • Elena Alderman scored seven points in the first quarter, but the Terriers found themselves trailing by four.
  • Alvernia went on an 8-0 scoring run to start the second quarter, and never looked back.
  • Alderman hit two three-point shots in the quarter, but the Terriers were in a 25-41 hole at halftime.
  • The Terriers started the third quarter well, thanks to four points from Sky Kubwalo, outscoring Alvernia 6-2 in the first two minutes. 
  • However, Alvernia would keep consistent, and take a 16-point lead into the fourth quarter.
  • Kubwalo would once again start the quarter well, scoring five points in under a minute. 
  • Alvernia were able to keep the lead and ended the game on a 10-2 run in the final four and a half minutes of the game.
 
Inside the Stats:
  • The Terriers had 15 second chance points, nearly outscoring Alvernia in that statistic. 
  • Alderman led the Terriers with 16 points, shooting 50% from three in 33 minutes.
  • Kubwalo would add 13 points in 18 minutes, along with six rebounds.
  • Alvernia University was able to outscore the Terriers in bench points (22-10) and points in the paint (32-14) to help them secure the result.
 
What's Next:
  • Women's Basketball will look to bounce back at home against Fisher College on January 6th, 2024. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
